Chelsea FCW Survive Aston Villa Scare to Maintain Title Challenge

Chelsea Women's title hopes remain firmly intact after a hard-fought 3-0 victory over Aston Villa Women in the Women's Super League on Sunday. The Blues endured a nervy start against a determined Villa side who threatened to disrupt their rhythm with an aggressive approach.

First-Half Dominance

Chelsea controlled possession from the outset, but Aston Villa remained resolute in defense. The breakthrough came in the 26th minute when Guro Reiten's cross found Bethany England, who finished coolly from close range. Chelsea continued to dominate, with Sam Kerr and Pernille Harder posing constant threats to the Villa backline.

Nervy Second Half

The second half was a different story, as Villa emerged from the break with renewed vigor. They created several promising chances and tested Chelsea goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger. However, the Blues defense held firm, led by the impressive Millie Bright.

Late Assurance

Chelsea sealed the victory in the 82nd minute when Kerr headed home a cross from Erin Cuthbert. The Australian striker added another moments later to complete the scoring. Aston Villa's resistance was finally broken, and Chelsea extended their unbeaten run in the league to five matches.

The result keeps Chelsea three points behind leaders Arsenal, maintaining their title challenge with just seven games remaining in the season.
